Building 84 Tour - Tickets Available!

Through the efforts of the Meet organizers and the generosity of the building owner, more tickets are now available for the Building 84 Tour! If you registered by mail and received a confirmation stating the tour was sold out, we have updated your registration with the number of tickets you originally requested. If you registered on-line and were not given the option to purchase Building 84 tickets, give us a call at 763-420-7829 and order tickets using a credit card. DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN as this will cause a duplicate registration and charge you the registration fee a second time. You may also purchase tickets on-site at the Meet.

Into the Future - 53rd Annual Studebaker Drivers Club Meet

We’re moving into the future with a new convention format. Though it’s very similar to our old format, It will cost substantially less, move at a faster pace, and be more exciting all at the same time!

Convention Highlights

DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2017

Everything begins at 8:00 am. Vendors will be open for business at 8:00 am at the fairgrounds. At 8:00 am sharp, the Studebaker Drivers Club Board of Directors meeting begins at the DoubleTree Hotel in Downtown South Bend. The AOAI Board Meeting will also begin at 8:00 am at The Inn at Saint Mary’s.

The first rehearsal for the Studebaker Band will be at 2:00 pm across the street from the DoubleTree at the Palais Royale. The SDC Judges Seminar and the Cooperators Seminar will also be held in the afternoon at DoubleTree. Deadline for registration to have your Division 1-4 car or truck judged is 5:00 pm.


Wednesday, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Wear your convention registration badge for entry to the fairgrounds to shop and visit with our loyal vendors. There will be complimentary cakes and cookies. Visit the Bonnie Doon Ice Cream truck where you may purchase any flavor or amount you wish. Take part in the BUST A BALLOON dart throw where you can win CASH PRIZES! The number of darts you get is determined by the number of vendors you visit. Nearly everyone will win some CASH!!! Be sure to visit as many vendors as possible throughout the evening. Vendor Night does NOT require pre-pay or pre-registration but you MUST wear your SDC Convention badge to participate in all activities throughout the four day Convention.

DAY 2 - THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2017

Thursday will feel and function very similar to Tuesday under the old format. The Newsletter Editors meet in the morning. The Convention Committee, Chapter Officers, and Studebaker National Foundation meetings stay on the same timetable as before throughout the afternoon. There will be a Studebaker Band rehearsal 10:00 am – 11:30 am.

8:00 am Electronic drive-through judging opens for classes 1–4 at the Saint Joseph County 4H Fairgrounds. This will be the third year of drivethrough and electronic judging. Participants last year had very favorable comments regarding the new process. The time commitment for judging was cut in half as was the number of judges needed. If this becomes your first electronic and drive-through experience, I can predict that it will be very positive for you!

Deadline for registration to have your Division 5–9 and SI car or truck judged is 5:00 pm.


This is a huge, fun change for us all! The Palais Royal Ballroom, catty-corner to the DoubleTree hotel to the Northwest and adjacent to the Morris Civic Auditorium, is our location for dinner and the Studebaker Band concert at 6:00 pm, the General Membership Meeting at 7:00 pm, and the Studebaker Auction at 8:30 pm.

Dinner will feature a variety of food bars as well as a CASH beverage bar. If you plan to enjoy the buffet dinner, YOU MUST PRE-PURCHASE your $25 “all-you-can-eat” food wrist-band before April 25, 2017. The caterer is Kurt Janowski who is one of the preeminent restaurateurs in South Bend. Kurt is THE GUY who does Notre Dame events as well as nearly a dozen other eateries in the Northern Indiana area. Buffet ticket holders will get priority seats up front and, if by chance the room approaches capacity, food ticket holders will be certain to have seats for all the events.

This will be an awesome evening that you do not want to miss. Great people, eating great food, with great entertainment in a luxurious, yet casual, ballroom!

Note: Any member wearing their SDC convention registration badge may attend the events, even if you don’t purchase the meal, as space allows. (Room capacity 550 people.) You will NOT have an opportunity to walk-in and participate in the buffet without the one week pre-pay due to lead-time requirement. SDC will NOT be able to refund any cancellations on the buffet only.

DAY 3 - FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2017

Vendors open at the Fairgrounds at 8:00 am. Electronic drive-through judging for classes 5–9 and SI also begins at 8:00 am at the fairgrounds.

Ladies Luncheon
11:00 am Palais Royale Annex, Register with Cornerstone; $35. After lunch, tour the Oliver Mansion one block west and just behind the Studebaker National Museum. The Copshaholm Mansion is a 38 room, 14 fireplace mansion on 2.5 acres of landscaped gardens.

Tour Building 84
Register with Cornerstone; $20. Tour Building 84, which is the historical main Studebaker assembly building. Tours will take place from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, every hour on the hour. Register your tour time with Cornerstone

SOUTH BEND (DTSB) Parade begins forming at 3:00 pm at the fairgrounds. We will depart the fairgrounds at 4:00 pm. Remember how awesome it was in 2012 as former Studebaker factory workers families and fans line the route into Downtown South Bend (DTSB) and fawn over the fantastic Studebakers? There will be reserved parking in front of the original Studebaker Brothers Blacksmith Shop and up and down Michigan Street.

5:00 -7:00 pm Our Studebakers are the guests of honor for the evening. There will be a 1950 Black Landcruiser car giveaway at this event sponsored by Mark Tarner of South Bend Chocolate. The receipt of any purchase at South Bend Chocolate prior to the drawing becomes your entry into the drawing. Don’t miss this. Thank You Mark!

DTSB Restaurant Walk
5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Downtown eateries have evening specials for the Studebaker Drivers Club. Many will feature menu items from Studebaker Executive Dining room menus.

DAY 4 - SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017

Start your day at 8:00 am touring the Studebaker Proving Ground Track (now known as the Navistar Proving Ground). There is a $20 pre-registration fee 53RD ANNUAL STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB MEET which covers the cost of insurance and also insures reserved parking in one of the four front rows of the car show.


For many years at our International Meet we judged and showed our cars only to our club members. The public knew we were there, but they couldn’t attend; and because the event was buried on a weekday, we missed a terrific opportunity to introduce Studebaker to our host city. Because it is now on a Saturday, and an open event for all makes of cars, we expect a lot of Studebakers not previously seen at our Convention. Studebakers will be randomly parked in their own area. That means your best friend with his Avanti can park next to you in your Lark. We’re inviting all other brands of cars to join us. They will be parked in their own area. Have a dirt-track race car, a dragster, buggy, or some other Studebaker conveyance? Bring it! We want you there!

Don’t think you’ll stay for the Saturday show? You’ll miss the best part of the week! With national and local promotion of the Saturday Car Show, a huge tent, a festival-like feeling, and a variety of food available at reasonable prices, you won’t want to miss it! A crowd favorite, The Studebaker Band, performs at noon. Awards for class–winning cars will take place early afternoon, with a surprise for the winners!
